Engineered for the Part You Bury.

Eco Column is a purpose-built post-frame column made from Alberta recycled plastic, for the point where the post meets the ground, which is where post-frame buildings fail.

Built with Premium Built Structures

A different product from our lumber

Eco Column is not a dimensional board. It is a purpose-built structural column, developed with our sister company Premium Built Structures for their post-frame shops, barns and riding arenas. It goes in the ground and it stays there.

The idea is simple. A post-frame building is only as good as the point where the post meets the ground. That is where the weather, the soil and the moisture all meet, and it is where a timber post begins to fail. Put a material there that cannot absorb water and the failure point moves somewhere else.

The problem it solves

Post-Frame Buildings Fail From the Ground Up

Not from the roof, not from the walls. From the six inches either side of grade, where a buried timber post sits in wet soil for its whole life.

The problem

Wet soil, forever

A buried post is in contact with moisture permanently. Treatment slows that down; it does not stop it, and it wears out.

The consequence

The whole building waits on it

When the below-grade section goes, the repair is not a post. It is lifting a structure to get at one.

The change

A material that cannot rot

Recycled plastic absorbs no water at all. Put it in the ground and the ground has nothing to work on.

Who it is for

Shops, Barns and Riding Arenas

Eco Column was developed for Premium Built Structures' own post-frame buildings: the shops, barns, arenas and storage buildings they put up across Alberta. It is used on their builds first, which is a stricter test than any sales page.

If you are planning a post-frame building, talk to Premium Built about the structure. If you are asking specifically about the column and the recycled material inside it, that is us.

Where the material comes from

The same place as everything else we make: Alberta's hardest-to-recycle plastics, collected through the regulated provincial programmes and processed at our plant in Lacombe.

That is what the Emerald judges singled out, not a new building product on its own, but a genuinely difficult waste stream ending up somewhere structural and permanent instead of in landfill.
