Recycled plastic deck and stairs at a farm shop, with paddock, corral panels and a horse beyond

Farm & acreage · Alberta & Ontario

Mud, Manure, Hooves. None of It Sinks In.

Corral rails, bunk liners, pen boards and fence rails in solid recycled plastic: nothing to rot at ground level and nothing to leach into feed.

Built for the Wet End of the Operation

Pens and bunks sit in constant wet and manure, take a hammering from stock, and get scrubbed down, for twenty years. It is the hardest environment on a farm for anything made of wood, and the easiest one to justify replacing.

  • Nothing leaches into feed or soilNo preservatives in the board. It sits against feed, bedding and pasture without putting anything into them.
  • No splinters where stock rubsNo grain and no fibre, so a rail that has been leaned on for ten years is still smooth.
  • Wash it down as hard as you likeIt takes on no water, so pressure washing does not raise a grain or soften an end.

Building something we have not listed?

We extrude the board ourselves, so the question is usually just what section you need and how much of it. Describe the job (including odd ones) and we will tell you honestly whether the material suits it.

Why plastic lumber

The Reason It Ends Up in the Wet Places

Every failure mode of a timber rail comes back to the same thing: wood takes on water. This does not.

Zero water uptake
Never rots
No swelling, no soft ends where the post meets wet ground, and nothing for a freeze to split open.
Untreated polymer
Nothing leaches
No preservatives in the board, so it sits safely against feed, bedding, soil and water. That matters where animals chew and lick.
No grain, no fibre
Never splinters
Nothing to splinter into a hide or a hand, however hard the rail is used or however wet it gets.
Colour runs through
Never needs painting
No annual coat of anything. Wash it down and that is the whole maintenance schedule.

Before you ask

Farm Supply, Answered

Is it safe around livestock and feed?

There are no preservatives in it. It is untreated recycled plastic rather than treated wood, so nothing leaches into feed, bedding, soil or water. That is the main reason it ends up in bunks and pens.

Will stock chew or damage it?

Animals chew most things. What it will not do is splinter into the mouth or hide the way a timber rail does once it has weathered, and there is no coating to strip off.

Can I pressure wash it?

Yes. It takes on no water, so washing does not raise a grain, soften an end or lift a finish. There is no finish to lift.

Can I use it for the posts and the framing?

Send us the job before you plan it that way. We will tell you what the board is suited to and where you would be better with something else. We would rather say so than sell you material that does not fit the application.

How does it handle an Alberta winter?

Because it absorbs no water, there is nothing inside the board to freeze, expand and split it. It does move a little with temperature, which is dealt with by fastening and gapping it as the install sheet sets out.
